Any clinically significant disorder in DSM-5/ICD-10 causing severe symptoms or significant functional impairment: schizophrenia, bipolar, major depression with severe symptoms, PTSD, severe anxiety disorders.

How is LIMHP different from LMHP?

LMHP cannot independently diagnose major mental illness (must consult). LIMHP has full diagnostic authority. Both require 3,000 hours, but LIMHP requires 1,500 hours specifically with major illness clients.

Can I upgrade from LMHP to LIMHP later?

Yes. Pay $50 and submit an affidavit documenting 1,500 major illness hours accumulated since becoming LMHP.

Why This State Is Complex

LIMHP requires the same 3,000 hours as LMHP, but at least 1,500 direct hours must specifically involve clients with major mental illness diagnoses. This dual-tracking challenge makes LIMHP significantly more complex, especially in general MH settings. Supervisor must be LIMHP, MD, or psychologist (NOT LMHP).
